  • Notes
    • Evelyn Carol True wrote the following:

"As a little girl, I remember going to visit Auntie Ida and Uncle Ellery, who lived in a big house in Lisbon Falls. Auntie Ida had a big wood stove for cooking in the kitchen. Uncle Ellery had a toy stove that looked just like the one Auntie Ida had. He smoked a pipe and when I cam to visit he would get out this little stove and blow smoke through it so of course I thought it was a working stove.

"Uncle Ellery was a plumber and owned a truck. He used to take me with him in the truck. That was the first time I ever rode in a truck. Auntie Ida and Uncle Ellery had a huge bathroom on the second floor. I remember two things about it. The tub was the largest one I have ever seen with big claw feet. The toilet had a water tank that was mounted on the wall above the toilet, and to flush it you would pull a chain.

"When I was at Bates, Auntie Ida lived across the river in Auburn at 15 High Street. I used to walk across the bridge to Auburn to go visit with her. I remember being fascinated that her bed was a Murphy Bed, one that folded up into a closet. I loved to be able to go visit with her so easily. Prior to attending Bates, I had only been able to visit with her once a year on our annual trip to Maine."
